REDWORD for Human Rights & Freedom of Expression welcomes the presidential pardon of Alaa AbdelFattah and urges the release of all political prisoners.
We commend Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s decision to pardon Egyptian-British writer and activist Alaa Abdel Fattah, along with five others. We call for the continuation of such positive steps to secure the release of thousands of political detainees, resolve this longstanding issue, and reunite prisoners with their families.
We extend our congratulations to the AbdelFattah family on the release of their loved one. We wish Alaa a full recovery from the toll of his long imprisonment and a return to his life. We also pay tribute to the tireless efforts of his family, particularly his mother, Dr. Laila Soueif, whose steadfast advocacy was vital in the struggle for his freedom.
Since its establishment last year, REDWORD for Human Rights and Freedom of Expression has been proud to contribute to advocacy campaigns led by civil society and human rights organizations. Today, we share in this moment of pride and gratitude, and we reaffirm our call for the freedom of all political detainees.
