Shady Habash Award and Fellowship

Shady Habash Award and Fellowship for Freedom of Expression: An annual award honors the late director and artist Shadi Habash, who directed the song “Balaha” that mocked Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi in 2018. Following this, he was tortured, imprisoned, and died at age 25 due to medical neglect on May 1, 2020. The award is presented each year on the anniversary of his death to an individual who demonstrate courage through their work or writings. Additionally, a fellowship is granted to another person, offering them the chance to collaborate closely with the organization’s team to develop their human rights skills and to spread their ideas and work.
