Five Years of Detention: Call on Egyptian Authorities to Release Moataz Hasab El-Naby

The Cairo Criminal Court will consider renewing the detention of Moataz Hasab El-Naby tomorrow, Tuesday, June 23, 2026.

Hasab El-Naby was arrested on July 12, 2021, and next month he will complete five years of pretrial detention behind bars.

He was brought before the Supreme State Security Prosecution, which charged him with fabricated accusations of joining a terrorist group and spreading false news, in Case No. 965 of 2021, Supreme State Security.

According to local human rights organizations, Hasab El-Naby has been subjected to a number of violations, including physical assault, intimidation, and ill-treatment. He was also transferred to Minya Prison nearly a year and a half ago, far from his family, making prison visits a financial and physical burden for them.

Hasab El-Naby is the sole breadwinner for his family, including his mother and sisters.

Call on the Egyptian authorities to immediately release Moataz Hasab El-Naby and drop all charges against him.
