Following Joint Appeal : Canada Reconsiders Hossam Elhamalawy’s eTA Refusal

REDWORD for Human Rights & Freedom of Expression welcomes the Canadian authorities’ decision to reconsider the refusal of Dr. Hossam Elhamalawy’s Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) and grant him authorization to travel to Canada.

The decision follows a joint appeal led by REDWORD and supported by human rights and press freedom organizations, journalists, academics, and human rights defenders.

We commend this decision and extend our sincere thanks to Canada’s Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, Lena Metlege Diab, and her office for their cooperation, prompt response, and attention to the case.

We are also deeply grateful to all organizations and individuals who joined the appeal and stood in solidarity. Their collective support was invaluable.

We look forward to welcoming Dr. Elhamalawy to Canada and to his participation in the upcoming academic and cultural events.
